Nike's Vaporfly series currently represents the world's most popular racing shoe, but the Nike Pegasus enjoys at least the same popularity - in the training shoe segment. Millions of runners, from elite to recreational runners, swear by the Pegasus. Nike says "Train in Pegasus, race in Next %.
Who are Pegasus confessors and what is the magic of the Pegasus?
Introduced in 1983 as “the shoe for every runner,” the Nike Pegasus has earned a reputation in the running community as a trusted, dependable training shoe. The Pegasus has undergone major technology shifts, though incrementally. That's exactly the magic of the Pegasus: The Pegasus' evolution has been made step by step through each model, leaving runners with a shoe that they know intimately well, a relationship that continues with the new Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 37. Our Nike x Top4running Ambassadors also agree "With the Pegasus I know where I stand" and "The Pegasus was my first running shoe and is still my favorite for many training runs. I've tested many innovations, but I definitely wear the Pegasus for one run a week."
Nike athlete and running legend Joan Benoit Samuelson also has a special relationship with Pegasus. She made a last-minute swap from her current racing shoe to the Pegasus for a race in Boston. She explains "I trusted the Pegasus so much more than the racing shoe I was wearing at that time, that I ran with the Peg instead". To the Pegasus 37 she says "it is the Legacy of the Nike Pegasus". So, what makes the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 37 so special?
What is new and what is familiar about Pegasus 37?
What is new?
The full-length Zoom airbag became a Zoom airbag in the forefoot area. Since runners are bouncing on the ground in the forefoot area, that's where they need the airbag the most. This ensures better energy return and makes the run even more intense. The airbag is twice as thick as the Pegasus 36 ( its predecessor) Zoom airbag and offers even more energy return. The Nike Air Zoom technology from the top has been incorporated into the React foam for the midsole. The React foam is lighter, more responsive and more durable than the previous Cushion foam. The transparent upper gives the shoe a light, feathery look. An updated midfoot strap adjusts to the size of the feet for comfort and support with every step.
What is familiar?
The silhouette maintains a heel collar that tapers away from the Achilles tendon — a design influenced by direct athlete feedback. The familiar waffle rubber outsole provides the familiar durability. The data-based outsole provides traction where runners need it. The continuous mesh material contributes to the transparent look and helps with ventilation.
In a nutshell:
With the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 37 every step becomes more intense. With a brand new Air Zoom element in the forefoot and Nike React foam for maximum cushioning and responsiveness, the shoe delivers the popular combination of fit and feel runners are used to. With every update made to the Pegasus over the years, the benefits to the runner and the design remain focused on improving comfort and fit.
For which runs is the Pegasus 37 suitable?
