What does a professional runner actually do one day after the Berlin Marathon? You are right - answering our questions. On 27.09.2021 we had the pleasure to welcome Philipp Pflieger and the founder of Incylence Alex Siegmund at our Top4Running Concept Store in Berlin.

For all those who do not know Philipp Pflieger yet: He is a marathon runner, author and podcast host. With a marathon best time of 2:12:15 hours he is one of the best runners in Germany.  And Philipp also participated in this year's Berlin Marathon and achieved a great 16th place. Even though he fell short of his own expectations, we find the performance very impressive.

And the people who came to the expert talk at the Top4Running Concept Store in the evening felt the same way. One question chased the next and even though many had run the marathon the day befo-re and their legs were not quite running smoothly again: the mood could not have been better.

A detailed report of the Berlin Marathon with all its facets followed. From the deviation of the actual goal due to a previous infection, the journey to Berlin in 4.5 hours from Regensburg by car (lead foot), the press conference on Friday, the too warm temperatures on race day, the fact that no professional ran a negative split, to the obligations of a professional at the finish. Philipp told us about his emotions and happenings during the whole race and you almost had the feeling to have run with him, so vividly he elaborated his report.

When asked whether he takes the stairs after a marathon or rather the elevator, his answer was: "Elevator. Definitely the elevator. But Kipchoge also takes the elevator. So that's okay."
So we amateur runners can also breathe a sigh of relief: Eliud Kipchoge and Philipp Pflieger also avoid stairs after the marathon.

But there were also many inquiries about his equipment. For example, we found out that Philipp also trains in carbon shoes and doesn't just pull them out of the closet for race day.

The focus of the questions, however, was on his colorful socks, which peeked out from under his jeans and were also draped on stands in front of the podium. Philipp designed these socks himself and even provided advice and support during the development process. With an aggressive look, this design is made for fast competitions, no matter if marathon, 5km or virtual run. And with exactly this style Phi-lipp will attack his next goals. The arguments for the socks: they are made of microfiber Microlon®, they offer extra cushioning, maximum durability, a double layered cuff, midfoot compression and a perfect fit. Plus, the design is sure to make us run a few seconds faster!

After the expert talk, there was a nice get-together with snacks, Erdinger Alkoholfrei and exciting conversations. Photos were taken with Philipp, he signed books and socks and chatted with everyone. And as it should be for a true professional, Philipp Pflieger stayed until every visitor had asked his last question.

We say:

Thank you Philipp for the great evening and we look forward to the next expert talk with you!
